How It Felt Puppets

People living with dementia were seriously affected by lockdowns. Important social and support groups were suspended. Established routines were disrupted. People felt isolated. When the restrictions were lifted, Angus Remembers arranged for the puppet company How It Felt to spend time with Arbroath Connections members. The group explored memories through making almost life-sized puppets of themselves.

The freedom to play with a puppet ‘on hand’ came naturally, and the fun encouraged self-expression.The film introduces us to the puppet alter egos of the participants. Through them we hear about the men’s very real-life experiences.

How It Felt has lots of ideas for making your own puppets. The puppets Little Mark and Little Debz helped to show how, in videos they posted during the pandemic. You can watch them here. Our activity is an easier read adapted transcription of a puppet making activity led by Mark and Little Debz.
